[Jan 22, 2000] Mark Audio Enthusiast Strength: Sound quality, build quality Weakness: perhaps a little light in bass Sound on this reciever, for both movies, and music, is fabulous. Even my wife, who normally cares not a whit about that kind of thing, remarks the music takes on a whole new life thru this reciever. On movies, one MIGHT wish for a little more bass.....but I don't have a subwoofer, and thats my next purchase. But, thru my B&W speakers, sound is crystal clear, and unbelievably accurate. [Feb 19, 2000] Brian Casual Listener Strength: 5CH Stereo mode is very nice, dolby digital, good price Weakness:
After hours of reading through many reviews on this site, I choose Denon. This model was $100 cheaper then the next up with DTS being the only difference. No regrets, this receiver is a great product! Pretty much what everyone states in their reviews is true to some extent, positive and negative. This is a clean and simple unit with ample hookups (including 6 channel in to accept a DTS device!). The manual was fine. The negatives are minor and easily dealt with. A powered subwoofer helps; heck, it makes the HT experience regardless of the receiver. The fact that you have to cycle through the modes (and tuner stations) on the remote is annoying. But like everything, you get used to it. I am sure there are better, more expensive ones out there but this does everything I need. Highly recommended. Similar Products Used: none |

[Mar 14, 2000] stu Audiophile Strength: looks and 5 channel stereo The 2700 is a great reciever. I picked one up for $500 al litle while ago. I bought it on the deal, if I did not like it i could return it for a complete refund. I still have the reciever. The soundis great. Everyone complains about not being able to change the stereo settings with the remote. Get up and push the button on the reciever. The settings are labeled clearly on the front of the reciever and on top of that the reciever has a memory for all your selections and fine tune tweaks. The bass output is great. It is not overpowering, blasting out the treble, but more of a solid hitting beat. Similar Products Used: denon 1100, denon 2800, sony 525 |

[Nov 25, 2000] michael kaldezar Audio Enthusiast Strength: Built like a brick s***house, everything you need for home cinema except DTS Weakness: very confusing setup instructions especially for dolby digital. This receiver sounds great for home movies, I use it in pro-logic mode for regular tv and that sounds great especially on all the various star trek spin offs that my 14yr old son watches. But the Dolby Digital is where this beast excells, my speakers are Boston Acoustics Micros plus a REL Q100E powered sub and on films like matrix, private ryan only one word will do..awesome! People who say that the amp lacks bass cannot be using a good powered sub(the REL definitely has!) On regular music the denon is only passable as a party music provider and doesn't really provide any competion for my Audiolab 8000A in fact it sounds disgusting in comparison! For the price especially as you can get great deals now that is discontinued this is a great way to a home cinema system |

[Jan 15, 2001] Jon Laye Audio Enthusiast Strength: Good sound quality, excellent DD set up and control. Remote, 6 channel input Weakness: no rear line outs. No DTS Good sounding receiver that I got a deal on. Open box for $300 right as it was being discontinued. ot overly powerful but at first I was using a pair of 4 ohm Acoustic Research speakers and it provided plenty of power. Even with 4 ohm speakers in all 5 positions (AR mains, M&K center & rear) it never complained. I have since upgraded to Vandersteen 2Ce speakers and the receiver is lacking with these 8 ohm, less effecient speakers. In the lower priced receivers I prefer Denon for amp quality, 5.1 sound quality and solid construction. Much better sounding and more powerful then a similiarly priced/featured Sony. [Dec 01, 1999] JohnnyB Audio Enthusiast Strength: Contain many attributes of the big brother 5700, Upgradeable to decode DTS (if necessary), plenty of power to run impedance challenged speakers, easy to use. Weakness: None, what so ever I wanted to purchase a receiver that acted, performed and looked like an high-end component but didn't have the price tag. So when I read the specs on the Denon AVR 2700, I was surprised Denon didn't put a $1K price tag on it. When your getting Dolby Digital decoding, 24 bit 96 kHz Burr-Brown DACs on all 6 channels, 80 Watts x 5, Digital Signal Processing, Enhanced bass management,Intelligent On Screen Display, 4 Pre-0uts(L,R,C, and sub) which I use to provide enhanced amplification for my mains and cc and to boot a remote that glows in the dark!! And as stated below somewhere that this particular unit was featured in Stereophile mag and it claimed to out perform the Yamaha and the Sony. So if you're asking yourself the question,"I want the best receiver money can buy without taking out a 2nd on your mortgage and your wife chewing you another orfice, then you should be considering the Denon AVR 2700 as a unit to demo....
